PN MP David Thake resigns from Parliament

In a statement on Thursday, the Nationalist Party (PN) announced David Thake’s resignation as Member of Parliament and the withdrawal of his candidacy from the party.

His resignation from Parliament follows days after he had resigned as a PN spokesman and his suspending himself from the Nationalist Parliamentary Group until the Commissioner for Standards investigated him for pending tax payments in his company.

Thake did so in response to reports in the news media that he had to pay around € 500,000 in outstanding tax dues.

In its statement, the PN said that the Opposition and party leader, Dr Bernard Grech, had accepted the Thake’s resignation and thanked him for his contribution to the party and its struggle to improve standards in politics.

Grech said that this resignation leads to a vacancy in the PN Parliamentary group to be filled by co-option.

The PN statement said that the Dr Grech will propose to the party structures to fill this vacancy with Arch. Graziella Galea who is the minority leader of the Local Council of St Paul’s Bay and a PN candidate on the 12th district.
