Residents up in arms against Infrastructure Malta’s cock-ups

Residents along the works in progress by Infrastructure Malta in the area bordering between Zabbar, Kalkara and Xghajra, precisely along the stretch of St. Leonard’s and St. Peter’s Roads, are absolutely livid at the government agency’s traffic management designs and the earth works undertaken.

Posts on social media have in their majority complained on the now severely-detracted parking facilities they will have to live with, especially by the construction of some sort of trough for plants, which one particular resident has quickly aptly dubbed as a “piss pot for dogs” !!

Although the improvements of the road surfaces and the underlying services going through were badly needed, the widened pavement and the now-permanent plant trough are most certainly not the most ideal things for this stretch of road.

The situation brought about by IM’s traffic management design cock-up is that this major arterial road cannot now permit the thoroughfare for two public transport buses simultaneously (see video screen-grabs below).

Added to this, the disturbance of the public peace is now exacerbated with truck drivers loaded with building construction materials cursing loudly without giving way to other oncoming traffic.

As taxpayers and residents, the posts on social media have suggested that Smart City ought to have been pinpricked and prodded to rehabilitate the fields around the St. Peter Battery and to plant trees instead of installing a plant trough. They vociferously complain that not even a low wall has Smart City been bothered to fix, leaving all in a state of utter abandonment, despite having snatched national heritage real estate for sake of building construction.

The residents further accuse Smart City of land grab speculation at the expense of the national heritage and local residents.
