The second edition of the innovative “Window on History” has been inaugurated this morning at the MALTA AT WAR MUSEUM at Couvre Porte, Vittoriosa.
The new public display space in the style of a window looking out onto the main historic Vittoriosa entryway allows the museum to expand its public outreach by hosting short periodic themed exhibits that last a few months each time. Its placement and general design take into account the fact that it will be viewed and enjoyed free of charge by passers-by from outside the museum.
The exhibition’s second topic focuses on the usage of steel helmets for troop protection from WWI to the current day. There are 33 different helmets on exhibit in total, all of which are from Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna’s reserve collection and are maintained in storage.
Fondazzjoni Work Artna – the Malta Heritage Trust carried out this initiative with the kind financial assistance of the Fondazzjoni Kottonera – Cottonera Foundation. The Hon. Glenn Bedingfield, Chairman of the Kottonera Foundation, opened it earlier this week during a press conference in the presence of FWA Chairman Mario Farrugia.
The exhibition will be on display at the Malta at War Museum in Vittoriosa until the end of November 2021, when it will be replaced with a new subject.
